The “Day After” | Kate + Oscar

I’m pretty over the moon over this photo shoot!

A “Day After Wedding” shoot is a fairly new thing, but I’m ALL over it.
Here’s why:
Bridal Portraits | Evening Weddings | Relaxation | Bad Weather
(the list can go on)

In Kate & Oscar’s case, we went for relaxation and a location special to them, Zephaniah Winery
(where soon, Oscar will meet, EVERYONE in Kate’s life… and now his!)

Here’s what they had to say about the session:
I had never heard of a day after wedding shoot, but was so excited about how everything went.  On your actual wedding day there is always something that you miss, or you run out of time, and this shoot was the perfect opportunity to make up for that.  Nicole was so willing to work with some of the shots we had wanted and wished to recreate and she had a grand list of shots and ideas as well.  We are so excited to have some pictures from Virginia so we can celebrate our wedding through photos, in both homes.

–Kate
I am happy to have these pictures in Virginia and for the time we spent with Nicole and Trey.  The photos turned out beautiful and our session was fun, stress free and not awkward or tense like it can be with some photographers.  I love how the pictures have turned out!

Their Story

Kate and Oscar were married in Honduras on July 3.  Their love story is one just like in the movies, and hearing her tell it gives me goosebumps, no lie!  They met in 2013 when Kate was on a two week trip serving with an organization called, Students Helping Honduras.  A staff member, (Luis) took the group of volunteers to a bar where Oscar (Luis’ friend) asked her to dance.  *this, LOVE THIS!* Kate made up an excuse because she was intimidated by Oscar’s mad dance moves.

Later that night, Oscar couldn’t stop thinking about Kate and got her phone number from Luis, and started messaging her. Although Kate was hesitant to respond, she did. And surprisingly once she got back to the states, the two continued messaging for months.

Conversations started off friendly. They spoke about relationships, life, cultural differences, likes and dislikes, goals, plans for the future, childhoods, family, and the list goes on *all while using google translate!!*. Around March both Kate and Oscar realized that they were becoming more than just friends, and they started to Skype and Facetime to practice Kate’s Spanish, and speak more frequently.

As of April 1st 2014 they called themselves exclusive and decided to see where life was going to take them. Much to the surprise of both Oscar and Kate, Kate applied and was accepted to teach at Villa Soleada Bilingual School in El Progreso starting in July of 2014.

Once Kate moved to Honduras, the two immediately were an item. After months of getting to know each other through various forms of technology they finally were in the same place and were able to continue getting to know each other in person.  Once they were finally together, it became pretty obvious to them and to those around them that they were in love and going to be together for a long time.

After much talk about wanting to get married, both Kate and Oscar decided it would be best to wait until Oscar had met Kate’s family.  They had picked out a ring together, but decided Oscar would surprise Kate with the proposal.  Kate’s parents came to visit in October of 2015, and while the four were out touring different parts of Tela, Honduras Oscar became very fidgety.  He blamed it on the bug bites he had gotten from the botanical gardens, so Kate sent him to the car for the bus spray and itch stick.  Little did she know he would return with the ring.  As he sat back down, he asked Kate to translate something for her parents.  He spoke about the type of woman Kate was, and all of the things she had taught him about love, life, and himself, and then he got down on one knee and asked Kate to marry him!

*goosebumps people, GOOSEBUMPS*

So, in an intimate beach ceremony in Honduras, Kate and Oscar said “I DO!”  They went through all sorts of obstacles to be where they are today… back in Kate’s home of Centreville, VA!!  Kate will be returning to work as an event planner, and until Oscar’s temporary green card is available he will be helping with lots of projects around the house and neighborhood.  In that time he will also be researching some different fields in which he may wish to work.  Once he can begin work, both Kate and Oscar will continue working hard and looking for the adventures in their every day lives and in their free time.

Their love is something pretty special, and just exudes in these photos.  We opted to do some casual ones, and then to recreate the wedding day with all the same love, romance, and happiness!

Here’s to your happy life filled with all sorts of adventure, Mr. & Mrs. Hernandez!
